Hi,

As you can see in my profile, I started a nut growing group at MCFT (maritime college of forest technology) in fredericton.  students have come together of the past two years now to collect, stratify and plant out seedlings and seeds into the college's woodlot.  This year we've planted out 29 seedlings of multiple varieties and planted out just under 400 seeds (red, white, bur oak and black walnuts).

We were able to get a donation from Arrow Construction for a roll of construction fencing that we are protecting our seedlings with.

Before the end of April we'd like to build a seed stratifying and seedling protection box.  Was thinking wire mesh on the top and bottom and wooden side.  That way we can stratify way more than what we can currently fit in the dendrology lab fridge crisper, and our seedlings will be a lot more hardened off to the weather rather than spending their days lounging around inside beside a window and then getting a bit shocked when placed outside.

Any suggestions about other people's experience with stratifying boxes or the like outside?

Also, we are always interested in either guest speakers or coming out to see demonstrations that could inspire us.  We have about a 3 hour radius away from Fredericton in which we can travel.

Recent page views show there is a lot of lurking here as on most sites.

Members should post more to  get to know each other.

FYI  in other news -  A calendar page can be added if that is desired.

Avatars not showing?

Anyone having issues with avatars not showing or not being able to find the button to add them? One member mentioned the latter.

I see many (11) have not added one.

Avatars are optional so it is hard to know if there is a problem unless i am told.

Bandwidth seems to be the biggest resource hog. I assume if 500 mb is reached the site is cut off until the 3rd. It is up to 86 mb since this screenshot from 6pm Thurs 24th. Remember the site is free to a point.

The contacts page.

The contacts page is limited to 25 messages a month. It maybe best to leave that page for non members.

It is best to use to the "send a message" option under the profiles if you want to talk to other members privately.

I don't know if that is limited but I assume not.

Don't worry it is a learning curve for all of us.

It is at 6 currently.

What does webs.com offer?

http://www.webs.com/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webs_(web_hosting)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_free_web_hosting_services

Some background on this free site. it has limitations. Note  the last link, in particular. Members may wish to chose another option for our web site.

BTW free doesn't mean 'big data " free. Sites like Google, Facebook, etc. all sell data.

Email address as user names

If you used your Email address as a display/user name intentionally, that is ok. However, it may be wise to change it in your profile, if not. It may be a potential security issue for you.

Mobile Devices

I am not sure how this site performs with Mobile Devices.

I don't have one to test with.

I see some 9 people that signed up but are marked "Invite to complete profile" and do not show as members.

20 out of 29, in others words, are listed on the members page vs what the admin sees.

Some show log in dates, some do not.

Is anyone using anything besides a PC to create accounts?

I will email these 9 directly, in a week, if I don't see updates.
